The Ford cup is an outflow vessel used to measure the spray viscosity of paints and varnishes. The measurement is made by filling the cup with varnish and measuring the time of free flow (until the stream is interrupted) of the entire contents of the cup through a calibrated hole located in its bottom. The viscosity of the varnish is directly proportional to its free flow time. The optimal measurement conditions should be a temperature of approximately +20°C.
